take a deep breath as you walk through the doors forbidden
you say hi to the friends you ain't seen in a while on and off
try and stay out of everybody's way fake friend
hoping one of those boys will wink at you and say party friends
you know, i haven't seen you around, before enemy turned friend
feeling like there's nothing left to figure out acquaintance
well, count to ten, take it in, this is life before name basis
you know who you're going to be, fifteen. secret friends
laughing at the other girls, who think they're so cool average friends
we'll get out of here just as soon as we can good friends
and then you're on your very first date and he's got a car confidante
and you feel like flying, you're thinking he's the one emotional support
you're dancing 'round the room when the night ends family friend
when you're fifteen and somebody tells you they love you childhood
you're gonna believe them. don't forget to look before you fall like family
i've found that time can heal most anything, and you just might inseparable
find who you're supposed to be, i didn't know who i was gonna be best friend

we were both young when i first saw you final
i close my eyes and the flash back starts-- in love
i'm standing there, on a balcony in the summer air current
i see the lights, see the party, the ball gowns crush on you
i see you make your way through the crowd, you say hello crush on me
little did i know, that you were romeo mutual crush
you were throwing pebbles, and my daddy said "stay away from juliet" past good terms
i was crying on the staircase, begging please don't go past bad terms
romeo, take me somewhere, we can be alone currently dating
i'll be waiting, all there's left to do is run current fling
it's a love story, baby, please just say yes one nighter
romeo, save me, i've been feeling so alone in lust
i keep waiting for you but you never come sexual tension
so i sneak out to the garden to see you physical attraction
we keep quiet, because we're dead if they knew secret/forbidden
so close your eyes, let's escape this town for a little while friends w/ benefits
you were romeo, i was a scarlet letter enemies w/ benefits

was i out of line? did i say something hardcore hatred
way too honest, made you run and hide i hate you
like a scared little boy? i looked into your eyes you hate me
thought i knew you for a minute, now i'm not so sure mutual hate
thought i knew for a minute, but i don't anymore rivalry
so here's to everything coming down to nothing friendly rivalry
here's to silence that cuts me to the core jealousy
and i stare at the phone, he still hasn't called frenemies
you feel so low you can't feel nothing at all enemies
it rains in your bedroom and everything is wrong i dislike you
you didn't mean it - back up, baby, back up you dislike me
did you forget everything? back up, baby, back up mutual dislike
it rains when you're here and it rains when you're gone annoyance
this thing is breaking down, we almost never speak indifference
i don't feel welcome anymore, baby what happened? backstabbed
i was there when you said forever and always love/hate
for one second it was perfect, and now you're halfway to the door i fear you
i believe it was a tuesday when i caught your eye you fear me
and we caught onto something, i hold to the night intimidation
you looked me in the eye and told me you love me by association
were you just kidding? fake enemies

Kendra met Daniella Markus when she first began to attend Magic School, five years ago. Dani was a lifer, so much so - that she had been living in the Magic School since she was born. She was the daughter of one of the professors, and on occasion, Kendra felt bad for her. To have to live inside the walls or grounds your whole life, without experiencing the outside world would have to be tough. Not to mention, having your mom be a professor. The girls met before they reached the high school age, so Daniella didn't see her mother during school hours.

Although the girls have never shared any classes together, they still had plenty of opportunities to become friends. Their friendship started when Kendra accidentally read the girls mind, and discovered that she was a telepath as well. The two didn't even need to speak out loud, to talk to each other. Kendra apologized many times, out loud, for what she'd done. Looking into someone's mind without due reason, or permission, and always been looked down upon. She had some instruction from her mother, but had never had many formal lessons on how to control her power. Dani, having lived at Magic School, was quite the opposite.

Dani is also a classmate of Piper Halliwell, whom is Kendra's best friend's sister. Their social circles cross each other on several levels, so it'd be impossible for them not to know each other, even if they hadn't met when Kendra began at Magic School. They see each other often at school social functions, and have always gotten along well. Kendra has tried on several occasions to invite her out into the mortal world, but whether it be her or her mother not allowing it, it never seemed to pan out.

"Come on Dani, you've got to come check out the mall near where Pheebz lives. We can eat a pizza with everything on it, drink to much soda, and buy clothes that we have to sneak out of the house in!"

Nevaeh and Dani have been in classes together since Nevaeh started at the beginning of this year. Nevaeh kept her head down and didn't really make friends as she was afraid they wouldn't like her. One day after a few months Nevaeh found she had no where to sit at lunch, seeking someone she recogniszed she found Dani. She had always thought of her as a nice girl but was too afraid to talk to her. She asked if she could sit at her table and it was the start of their friendship.

They started off as just lunch buddies but soon became quite close friends and Nevaeh started to feel like she belonged somewhere.

Piper had no idea when was the first time she's being Dani's friends. Well the two girls started way back when Piper just started her career in Magic School. She had no idea what was attracted her to be close with Dani at first, Piper was a shy child but somehow Dani's company able to make her feel comfortable in her own skin. Piper always prefer to be quiet and not talking much even for a simple everyday conversation, but with Dani they got instant click and Piper could spend hours to explain what she kept in her heart. With Dani's ability to telepathy the whole thing just even more simple for the girls, they can communicate better even when Piper shut down and decided not to talk for days.

Having a friend who literally grow up in Magic School also had its own advantage for Piper. She could explore the school, reading 'forbidden' spell books and spend hours with her friends tried to create some potions. Magic School became Piper's place to escape from home, well that was before Dani then dragged her all around. Dani's cheerful personality and the fact that her friend often unable to stop talking make Piper able to move out from her shyness and following Dani's footsteps and doing things that she knew she wouldn't dare of doing if she's by herself. For Piper, Dani is a missing piece that possess something that her three sisters unable to fulfill, the fourth sister as Piper always thought of her, the one that complete the circle of Piper's comfort zone where she could express herself honestly and be who she is, Piper Halliwell without he whole witch-charmed ones attribute.

Meka Redwood can remember how he’d faced his first day of Magic School with a mixture of overwhelming excitement and undeniable trepidation. For years, ever since his eldest brother, Sabien, had started his magical education, and then Talian the year before, Meka had been quite literally counting down the days until he could walk the same hallways as them. It was hardly surprising seeing how he’d been enthralled by their tales of the institution for such a long time that, by the time his turn rolled around, he felt as though he was missing out on a great adventure. Such was his eagerness to be amongst other children just like him that, when the morning of his first day arrived, Meka could hardly contain himself. He had been keen to meet other kids struggling with their powers, as much to reassure himself that his lack of control was nothing to worry about as it had been to simply be around other children like him. But he’d also been incredibly nervous. What if no one liked him? What if no one wanted to talk to him? What if he had to spend the next four years entirely alone as a social outcast?

He needn’t have worried. That first morning, Meka had sat with the other freshmen in the Great Hall and fidgeted nervously as he’d listened to the Headmistresses welcome speech, but through the uneasiness he had known that Magic School was a place he’d feel like he belonged. He could claim to know this through some mystical fashion, one of his hit and miss premonitions perhaps, but the explanation, as usual, was much simpler than that. He could recall the sinking feeling in his stomach as the Headmistress had instructed the new freshmen to mingle, to chat to each other until their first class. It had been a blatant ploy to make them feel more at ease with each other before being thrust into school proper, something which immediately put Meka on edge. While not usually a nervous sort of guy, Meka has never been much of a talker. Whether because he could barely get a word in edgeways with his brothers or not, he had always much more likely to sit back and listen to others talk, to let them shine, and so he felt as if he’d suddenly been put on the spot. It was with an almost apologetic smile that he turned to the girl next to him, hoping that his sheepish expression would be enough to start a conversation. To his eternal surprise, it worked and the girl beside him summarily introduced herself as Daniella Markus.

For the thirty minutes before their first class, Meka and Daniella talked. Or, rather, she talked a lot and he listened with a curious smile upon his face, only interjecting when she asked him a direct question. While others might find that a little intimidating or annoying, Meka certainly wasn’t one of them. If anything, he was thankful as it took a lot of the pressure off him. Meka listened happily as Dani explained a lot of things to him, about the school and how the place worked. Having been born there and still calling the place home, he figured that she knew better than most. It was with no conscious thought that, when the bell signalled the beginning of their first class of freshman year, Meka got up and walked with Dani to the vanquishing classroom. He sat at the desk next to hers, chatting with her when the teacher wasn’t talking, and working with her when instructed to partner up. It was a pattern that repeated throughout that first day, with Dani walking with Meka to all of his classes, thankful for the fact that he was sure he’d have found himself lost in the labyrinthine corridors without her help. By the time his first day drew to an end, Meka felt positive about his life at Magic School and knew that in Dani he’d found a friend.

The next morning, Meka ventured to school with Talian—who had teased him relentlessly the night before upon uncovering that the first friend he’d made had been a girl. Finding Dani in the Great Hall before classes, he’d tried his d**nedest to ignore Tal making kissy-faces in their direction, and had fallen back into conversation with his new friend as easily as if he’d never left the day before. And that’s how it’s been ever since. Each morning, Meka would meet up with Daniella and they’d catch up on what they’d done the night before, and as time passed that usually resulted in Dani’s admonishment of Meka for ignoring his homework. They’d walk between classes together, or meet up for a fleeting conversation in the hallways if they’d been headed in different directions. On the occasions that they do share a class, they almost always sit side by side, sharing hushed conversations or passing each other notes when the teacher isn’t looking. If instructed to find a partner, Dani would always be his first choice, not only because he finds being around her so easy, but because she’s one of the very few people who can get Meka to concentrate without using threats. He adores her sunny disposition, appreciating that she faces each day with a smile in the same way as he tries to treat every day like a mini adventure.

Though he has several very close friends, to Meka, Daniella is his best friend. It’s the way he’s thought of her since the middle of his freshman year. She’s the one he’d always opt to spend time with, finding that she can cheer him up in those instances when others only seem to irritate him more. She’s the one who has a permanent open invitation to visit his home whenever she’d like—or when her folks would allow. In contrast, because Dani lives at the school, she is his sole reason for sticking around long after the end of day bell has chimed and the two can very often be seen surrounded by dusty old books in the library as they work through their steady pile of homework. Alright, Dani tends to work and Meka tends to distract her, but still. It’s the though that counts, right? In fact, Meka is certain that if it weren’t for Dani, he’d have flunked out of most of his classes long before now. Daniella is the one who can tell what he’s thinking, even if he hasn’t mentioned that he has anything on his mind. Even when he’s so lost amid his thoughts to realise she’s there at all. He wouldn’t think twice about confiding in her because he knows that anything he did tell her would be treated with absolute confidence, as he would take any secret she shared with him to the grave. Though a laid back kind of guy, he wouldn’t let anyone get away with badmouthing his best friend, willing to stand up and fight for her the way any real friend would.

While a person would have to be blind not to notice the perpetual smile upon the girl’s face or the cheeriness with which she faces life, Dani is a multi-faceted girl and Meka sees the sides of her that others might not see. Like, for example, how hard the attack on the school hit her. While it was a tragedy for the whole magical community, and everyone who attends Magic School undoubtedly still feels the impact of that night in one way or another, what people tend not to realise is that it was Dani’s home that was attacked. Her home, the place where she felt secure, the place she’d been told was impenetrable, had been attacked, effectively shattering her belief system and leaving her afraid for her safety for the first time. While there’s nothing much that Meka can do to rebuild that belief for her, he can be there for her whenever she needs him, and that’s what he intends to do. He doesn’t know if she’s noticed that he’s been a little closer than usual. He has made a point of lurking nearby as often as he can on the off chance that she might need his shoulders to lean on, but it’s nothing that she wouldn’t do for him. He knows that as surely as he knows himself. Perhaps it’s because they share so many traits that they became such good friends, or maybe it’s because the traits that aren’t common tend to complement each other so that Dani balances Meka out. Whatever it is, Meka is glad that he found her, his best friend, his confidante, his sister from another mister. He knows that she’ll always be a fixture in his life. But, then, it’s not like she has a choice. She’s stuck with him whether she likes it or not.

"Dani, did you happen to pick up my notes from Magic Ethics this morning? I seem to have … misplaced mine. Again." –sheepish grin-
Meka Redwood can remember how he’d faced his first day of Magic School with a mixture of overwhelming excitement and undeniable trepidation.

Talian Redwood has never been accused of being shy. In fact, the concept is as alien to him as relaxation is to Sabien or boldness is to Meka. It simply doesn’t compute. He has always been an outgoing sort of guy, with confidence in abundance, and when paired with his love of people and his need to be the centre of attention, it’s easy to see why he’s such a well known face around school. Being part of the popular crowd means that people flock to him and his friends without them having to do much of anything, and Tal uses this to his full advantage, especially when those who flock to him are pretty girls. With his talkative, amiable, and fun-loving nature, Tal understands why he’s had more girlfriends than most, and he’d be lying if he said that he didn’t know that he was a good lookin’ guy. Like any hot-blooded male, he revels in female attention, and when his roving eye is taken into consideration, it’s easy to see where his reputation as a ladies man has stemmed from. He can’t help it; quite simply, he loves girls. Though he doesn’t really discriminate, able to find the beauty in most, he is unmistakably drawn to bold, daring, outgoing, adventurous girls—in other words, those like him. But that isn’t to say that he has never been interested in the quieter, academic sort. Those like Daniella Markus.

It was at the beginning of his sophomore year that he first noticed Daniella. He’d been sat in the dining hall, tucking into his lunch, when she’d walked in with his kid brother in tow. Smirking devilishly, for how could he not give Meka a hard time over this, he’d wasted no time in upping and leaving his buddies in favour of interfering in Meka’s life. After all, that’s what big brothers did, right? Sitting himself down beside his baby bro, Tal proceeded to introduce himself to Daniella in his usual, flamboyant manner. Informing her that he was the only Redwood she should want to get to know, Tal spent the rest of that lunch hour simultaneously talking with Dani and poking fun at Meka. It was something that quickly became a regular pattern. Even if he only spent five minutes with them, he always tried to make a point of checking in with Meka and Dani. He told himself that it was to squeeze in his obligatory Meka-baiting, a favourite pastime of Talian’s since early childhood, but as the months rolled by, it became more and more apparent that Daniella was one of the driving motivators. Though quieter than his boisterous friends, she was friendly and talkative and quick to smile. That she had a smile which always inspired one in Tal was neither here nor there—or so he told himself.

Time ticked by and Meka and Dani became the best of friends. Inseparable in the most literal sense of the word—really, there were times when Tal thought they’d actually been attached at the hip—her face was one that he grew accustomed to seeing around a lot—whether in school, lounging around his family home on the occasions that she visited, or at a social gathering with several mutual friends. Talian grew to enjoy her company, finding that she was funny and smart and easily able to make him laugh—a winning combination in his book. It was perhaps inevitable that, by the time Tal reached his junior year, he was beginning to see her in a whole new light. Already well known for his love ‘em and leave ‘em attitude towards girls, he’d worked his way through a steady stream of casual girlfriends by the time he realised that perhaps he might want to see if there was anything more than friendship for the two of them. However, Dani wasn’t just any girl. Not only were both of her parents teachers—teachers who could actively punish him for hurting their little girl—she was Meka’s best friend. The last thing he wanted to do was make things awkward for his kid brother’s BFF when hanging out together.

For a couple of months, Tal ignored the things he had been feeling. Or at least he tried to. There were a couple of near misses that he can recall, once in the library when they’d both been part of a study group and once again at a party thrown by one of Tal’s friends, when he’d come dangerous close to kissing her. You know those moments, the ones where you find yourself gazing into someone’s eyes, knowing from the tension which crackled like electricity on the air that something was happening. In a most un-Tal-like fashion, he always looked away and promptly busied himself with something to distract him. It was fair to say that Tal had been confused. Since he’d never had a crush on any of his brother’s friends before, he didn’t really know how to deal with what he was feeling, and the possibility of the fallout when everything went awry had him second guessing himself when he’d never done so before. So Tal soldiered on, pretending that he wasn’t inexplicably drawn to the brunette, and tried to put her out of his mind. He tried to carry on as if nothing had changed, and even casually dated a couple of girls in a vain attempt to take his mind off her, but it was no good. In the end, it was one of his friends who told him to go for it which prompted him to take the action he’d wanted to take for a while. That afternoon, when school was out, he’d pulled her to one side and told her everything—how much he liked her, how he’d wanted to kiss her for months, and how he was worried that if they’d dated, things might get weird for his brother. Though he’d only intended to talk to her, to put his feelings out there and see what happened, Talian has never been good at restraining himself. Though he’d told himself he wouldn’t, he broke his own promise and kissed her, telling himself that if it was going to be his only opportunity, he wasn’t going to waste it.

It transpires that it wasn’t his only opportunity, not by a long shot. Whatever it was that Tal felt for the younger girl, it seemed that she’d felt sparks of it, too, and so the pair began dating. His friends actively voiced their concerns to Tal in private, warning him that screwing around with the daughter of two of his teachers was a dangerous game, but when Tal replied with the fact that he wouldn’t intentionally hurt her, he was telling the truth. Having gotten to know her during her growing friendship with Meka, Talian had already started to care about her, and that wasn’t something that diminished in the time that they dated. In fact, as was to be expected, Tal only grew to care for her more. For six months, Tal and Dani became inseparable, much to Meka’s chagrin. He calmed down noticeably as he basked in his blissed-out love bubble with Daniella as if she got all the best parts of what made Tal the guy he is, without the traits which would drive any normal girl insane, such as the incessant flirting. In the time that they were together, Tal stopped flirting with other girls—well, for the most part. You can’t remove the core of what makes him who he is.

So happy with Dani he’d been that it almost came as a surprise when one of his buddies pointed out that, at nigh on six months, his relationship with Daniella was the most serious he’d ever had. Though he’d known on some level that things weren’t as casual between them as he’d tried to convince himself, having someone else spell it out for him shocked Tal. It’s not something he’s proud of, but as someone who likes to play the field, the idea of being tied to one girl sparks dread in Talian. He’d tried to laugh his friends off, telling them that it was all in their heads, but it was that conversation which put the wheels of their break-up in motion. Within days, Tal had started to withdraw from Dani, gradually spending less time with her than had become normal. When she asked if he was going to hang around the school for a while after classes let out, instead of grinning playfully and dragging her off to a quiet, unused classroom for a while, he’d started making excuses and heading home. Though a large part of Tal didn’t want to call things off with Dani, his actions said otherwise, and it wasn’t until Meka pulled him aside and questioned what the hell he was doing after blowing Dani off for the third lunchtime in a row that Tal realised he had to do something.

Calling things off with Dani was one of the hardest conversations that he’s ever had. While he was usually falsely apologetic, putting on a front of sorrow when he really didn’t feel anything, with Dani it was genuine. He liked her, he liked her a lot, but that was the problem. At seventeen, he wasn’t ready to have a steady relationship, no matter the intensity of the feelings he had for her. For the first time ever, Talian Redwood felt the sting of loss as much as Daniella had, and felt awful for calling their relationship quits. So awful, in fact, that for several weeks he’d toyed with the idea of giving them another shot. It was only Meka’s gentle insistence that he wouldn’t stand by and let his own brother break his best mate’s heart that stopped him. So for those first few weeks following their break-up, things were strained between Tal and Dani at best, downright awkward at worst. Every time he saw her, he felt a pang of guilt mixed with the longing to have back what he’d thrown away. He’d lost count of the number of times he’d pictured himself striding across the room, taking her in his arms, and kissing her as if his life depended on it. But Meka was always there in his peripheral vision, silently warning Talian to keep his distance. It was the least Tal could do to obey his wishes.

Several months passed and as his junior year drew to an end, he and Dani started to converse once more. It began gradually—a friendly smile as they passed in the corridors here, an amiable hello in the dining hall there. It was still strained, and even those who didn’t know them would’ve been able to tell that they’d once been more than the casual acquaintances they now seemed. Perhaps it was because a part of Tal hoped that he and Dani weren’t really over, or maybe it was because in the time he’d known her, he’d grown to adore her, but Talian decided that he would fight to regain the friendship they’d once shared. So he pushed through the awkwardness, through the often unbearable discomfort to talk to her as casually as he could manage. He still feels it, the attraction. There’s just something about Daniella Markus that Tal can’t shake. The only difference is that now he better understands the boundaries. Naturally, now that he’s dating Lori, he feels the pull towards her less, but that doesn’t change the fact that he misses her. He misses the easy conversations and the way she never failed to make him laugh and hopes that one day things won’t be so clumsy between them, and that they can return to the friendship they’d once shared.

"In another time or another place, things might have been different. Just know that I love you, and nothing will change that."
