DESCRIPTION:
Physical Description: Leilani stands about 5'3", and she's quite petite, despite the amount of power that she exudes. She has a smile that seems to attract people, and soft, kind eyes that win over their trust pretty quickly. She retains many of her Hawaiian roots, where is was born and died. She has long dark hair, tan skin, and large almond shaped brown eyes that seemed to be able to look right through someone. People may not guess when they first look at her that Hawaii is her heritage, however. They often don't, in her experience.
She has been told during her long lifetime that she is beautiful, but Leilani has lived to see a lot of beautiful people. They don't necessarily hold any part of life that is any more special than 'non beautiful' people, and Leilani doesn't take much toll in these types of compliments. She simply ignores them, wishing to be complimented on her intelligence, or ability to run the school, instead.
Style: Leilani doesn't particularly like the Elder Robes, and since becoming the Headmistress at Magic School, has begun to wear mortal clothes a bit more often. She still wears her robes during school hours, but it is always over a dress or outfit that she likes. She'll try wearing just about anything, the years alive giving her confidence about her looks. However, she knows what is considered appropriate in the mortal world, and what isn't. She followed those guidelines, and sticks to them.
She likes to wear dresses mostly, but isn't at all against some comfortable jeans and top. 8 times out of 10, you would likely catch her in a dress, however. It is the perfect thing to wear underneath professor or elder robes, and she finds them quite comfortable to wear. Perhaps it is because it is the closest thing in modern clothes to what she wore when she was a mortal herself.
Looks Like: Kristen Kruek
Personality: Leilani has a naturally sweet and kind nature, but all the years as a whitelighter and then as an elder have hardened her a bit, and caused her to become a bit rigid. She likes things in a certain order, and she is usually pretty set on following the rules as they were set down by her and her peers. Life was hard enough on Earth, without those looking out for it falling down on their jobs. However, she is still very caring and kind, and she has a connection to things, especially in the school. Her students are the most important thing in the world to her, and each and every one of them she sees as her charges. She has empathy of every one of them in pain, which is a good deal of them - considering it is a rather large school.
Despite her caring nature, she doesn't like games. She's experienced them all it seems, and is a very big believer in history repeating itself. Human beings seem to have inevitable faults. One of them is lying. Lying to get out of homework and classes, were the ones she experienced most in her daily life. However, she'd learned over the years to be able to spot the liars, and only the very good could get past her detection.
Leilani's experience during her mortal life was essential to her decisions in her afterlife, in which she can dedicate to helping the forces of good. Leilani is big believer in the rules, only because many of them have very good and proper reasons behind them. She runs her Magic School with order and as much tolerance as she can muster for unavoidable mistakes. She often has to remember what it was like to be alive for the first time, and to not be able to avoid mistakes that seem common sense to her.
Leilani is a very focused and dedicated young woman, and doesn't like to leave a mystery unsolved or a lesson unlearned. Once she has found something that she is committed too, she always sees it through. A job should never be left undone, and a chapter should never be left unfinished. Even though she knows she has eternity to finish tasks, she doesn't like to leave them for the following day, if she can help it. Leilani is patient by nature, although her students don't see that in her. She is calm and grounded, even if she gives a punishment that in the eyes of the students seems harsh. She has never had a parent complaint, and the students have a generally good combination of respect and fear for the headmistress, who had lived hundreds of years.
SCHOOL LIFE:
Length of time in Postion: 31 years (began in 1960)
How they got their job: Leilani obtained the position of Headmistress in 1960, after she had been an Elder for 150 years. She wanted the job fiercely, and began campaigning for the job long before the previous Elder decided to move on from the school. When he did, she was finally offered the position. A chance to pass on the knowledge of the Magical World and to protect the new generations seemed like a priceless opportunity. Perhaps, not something she would do for eternity - but one thing she wanted to do. She's been in the position just over three decades, and doesn't see herself retiring any time soon.

History: Leilani Mahala was born on the Island of Maui, long before it was known as Maui. She was the beautiful young daughter of a mortal on the island of Hawaii. She was born in 1671 to the daughter of a King in one of the many tribes on the island that she once roamed. She lived a generally happy life, and always used her power as a princess to help people in her village. She always made sure those in charge of rations didn't skimp out and hoard it for themselves. Leilani did her best to be sure that everyone's health was as well as possible for their knowledge, and that if there were any injuries she'd try to help them get improve, as best she and the village healers could. It wasn't much that many years ago, but that their princess cared enough, rose spirits, at least. She was terrible at first, but after bandaging many puncture wounds with a variety of material, she finally became one of the resident healers in her tribe. The island being so small, and the people being so abundant the kingdoms were always at war with another. Hunting grounds and water sources were coveted, and the tribes constantly battled over the land. Leilani never saw much battle in her life, but she patched up many young men...and many she had to watch die.
One day when she went into one of the forests to recover some plants for healing, she met a young man. Leilani's sights had never been set on marriage, and she ignored many of the suitors that her father suggested for her. She met Bane, and her life became the beginning to a tragic love story. She had fallen in love with the son of another warring king, and their relationship was hard to keep concealed. They met beneath the trees, with the sound of the ocean crashing on rocks nearby, and started their love affair. For months they found ways to contact and meet each other, and none were the wiser. It wasn't long before Bane had ideas of marriage, as his father was beginning to pressure him. He knew he didn't want any of the women that were chosen for him, he wanted his love, Leilani. He worked up the courage to ask his father about his choice, and his father was hesitant at first. However, he decided that it couldn't hurt to have an ally on the island, and if that was what his son wanted he could have it.
Bane immediately found Leilani and told her the good news, but she was anything but happy. Her father had just chosen a suitor for her to be married...and arranged the marriage. She was engaged already. Bane hadn't lost hope however, and wouldn't heed Leilani's plea for him to go home. He went into her home, and asked her father for her hand in marriage. At first Leilani began to have hope. Her father was saying nothing, and his facial expression had not changed. Before she knew what happened however, a newly made spear was had pierced his chest, and was coming out of his back. She ran to him immediately, her heart feeling it too had been speared. He died that night, on the night they had hoped to be married. That was when Leilani was 17 years old.
After Bane was killed, Leilani left her privileged home. She didn't want anything to do with her father, and her heart yearned only to be with someone she would never see again. She took to living with the commoners. It was a different lifestyle, but Leilani took to it graciously and was very helpful to all the women in the village. They hid her carefully, because there were men looking for her all over the village. She would have gone to Bane's father, but she'd never met him...and her father had already planned to scour and destroy their village. She hoped that Bane's people were as strong as he had told her, and that they'd easily defend themselves against her father's attacks.
Leilani made very good friends among the people of her village, and considered them family. She helped them and they helped her. She learned to love unconditionally, and swore to never return to the life of a princess. Her father located her in the Fall of 1697 and killed her for her betrayal. She became a whitelighter then. She got to see her love again, before she committed her life to becoming a whitelighter. Bane was proud of her, and she got to spend a bit of time with him, before his soul was reincarnated. Years later, his soul evolved to become a witch, one she looked after for nearly 15 years.
They fell in love, as was expected, but were forced apart again. It was the only time in her life she regretted her decision, and wished she could be mortal again, to be with him. He didn't want her to loose her chance to save future people, and he refused to see her after awhile. She'd lost him twice. She was assigned to various witches and future whitelighters during her time as a whitelighter, and had a glowing record, aside from the hitch of falling in love with a charge. It was time for her to be elevated, again. In 1810, she was made an Elder. After 113 years of guiding others. Being confided to the Heavens was easy at first. It was calm, peaceful, and she was able to guide whitelighters when their charges were in serious trouble. Some of them were even the future whitelighter she had once guided when she was a whitelighter herself.
Magic School had always been something she was interested in, and she often visited while she was an Elder. She expressed an interest in running it, for many many years, before she finally became headmistress in 1960. If she could handle that decade, she could handle any of them.
Professor Mahala is a beautiful, and timeless soul, mostly because she has lived so many years and experienced nearly everything there is on Earth. As an elder she has not aged a day. She is strict, and runs her school with authority. She does not tell her teachers how to punish or teach, but if she catches a student doing something it would be a fairly serious punishment. Because of this, many students are afraid of her. She likes to keep order in her school, and never shows a soft side, for fear the students would think they could get away with things. She knows they need to live, and have fun though, and occasionally turns her head the other way if they aren't doing anything dangerous. Most of the students don't care for her to much because of this, but she doesn't care. She doesn't give special treatment to anyone... not even the Charmed Ones.
