LIKES !
LIKE TWO She has a deep passion for the occult and its historical nature. It may be because her family has such deep roots in the occult but she has always collected books here and there, not just occult books as she does love to read, but mostly occult chronicles and histories as well as spell books (no matter how much real value or ground they have). She was going to take historical studies along with Greek and roman studies in post-secondary but her plans have changed as she's grown.
LIKE THREE Tea. Kai has a big passion for tea. And meditation that comes with tea. Cured leaf, green, herbal, fruit; she knows it all and can be counted on to find the perfect tea for you when you come for a visit to her dorm room or her family home. Her favourits are generally herbals but she is known for a good strong cup of black tea with breakfast each morning.
[/ul]DISLIKES !
DISLIKE TWO Stuck up prof's. Professors who think they know more than you just because they have a degree. Everyone is wrong sometimes. And when it carries over in their teaching to the point where they declare you ill fit to participate in something, well she can't take that. Stubbornness inspires her to dislike these people and show them up.
DISLIKE THREE Spiders. They are her worst fear. Once a friend jokingly said that there was a spider sitting on the back of her chair and rather than jump up screaming she had burst into tears. It doesn't help much that when all this magic stuff started to happen it was when a spider dropped down from the ceiling.
[/ul]STRENGTHS !
STRENGTH TWO Her ability to teach. Even when she had just come in to her own powers she was able to sift through her greatly growing collection of books and find the right information to help someone else new to their powers. She has the innate ability to be able to teach them through many things even though she doesn't possess their powers.
[/ul]WEAKNESSES !
WEAKNESS TWO Stress. Overload her with too much and she's pretty much hysterical. It takes a lot and in a dire situation she would keep it together but given a spare moment and she'd be well on her way to a full blown tear fest. She tends to over work herself and often freaks out about the littlest things.

Kai was born a healthy baby, 6 pounds 15 inches, and smiling. Her mother and father loved her and held her and above all kept her from knowledge of magic. Not that they discouraged the belief! No, it was just that they never showed her their powers or told her of their world. They encouraged a belief in all things and an open mind, and above all else the willingness to learn.
Kai’s most vivid memories of her parents include the smell of her mother’s perfume and the warm feeling of her hugs, the knowing bookish look her father would give her when she complained about teachers that thought her too young to comprehend a subject, and the way both her parents would make breakfast on Sundays; her mother would have a spatula in one hand and pancake batter on her cheek, her father would be humming while chopping up bits of fruit for their breakfast and doling out nice quantities of yogurt into each bowl. She remembers only the things she misses most, like the mountain air of BC and the way birds would wake her up every morning. But then her parents died.
She was 6. Her 3rd month in first grade and she had had a terrible day at school. Her teacher had told her that the novels on the second shelf were for “big girls”. Stupid twit she’d been reading practically since she could walk! As she rounded the bend she saw a crowd formed in front of her house, a small cabin by the ski hill, she pelted forwards with a sense of doom and the cops rush to try and stop her. But she got through. Her mother and father were mutilated and badly burned; there was no sign of life in either of them. Kai’s chest began to ache with unshed sobs and her sight began to fade from sickness, she almost blacked out; three hairy spiders, quite common in BC, scuttled across her path as she turned away and then she promptly threw up.
Her aunt raised her after that. She flew out to pick her up and brought her back to San Francisco (now home). Her aunt, Bella, was delightfully eccentric; she wore well matching but oddly cut clothes with a very businesslike feel to them (despite their being more appropriate for a hippie gathering than a day at work), her hair was quite long and tied in a tight braid twisted atop her head. She wore 4 rings on each hand and had her nose pierced. The home was an old manor house, painted blue and white with lots of windows each equipped with shutters. Bella welcomed her in and cared for her but first the ground rules: no judging, she had many friends some of them strange and Kai was to accept them as they were; questions are welcomed, she might see something that freaks her out and as it’s a new place it was only to be expected; thirdly and lastly, keeping in mind one and two, Aunt Bella’s a witch and her coven meeting are sometimes held here of which she would not be privy to; no entering the first floor bedroom.
Kai Nobelius Charm stared dumbfounded at her aunt. At 7 this kind of thing was hard to take. She had always known her aunt was a witch, she went to gatherings and hosted a monthly speak-easy for the members of her coven; but she had never seen anything, until now. Kai had been in her favourite corner of the attic reading a book her teachers had declared “too much” for her. Suddenly this giant spider had dropped down from the rafters and in her panic to get away from the thing she feared most she tossed the book into the air and slammed her hands downwards to the floor. Everything flew upwards, even herself. Her aunt, hearing the noise had rushed up and put things to rights. Now here they were; the biggest discussion of her life about magic and why she had it, and all she could think of was the giant hairy spider floating right near her face.
Kai went to a normal school, with normal kids, and did so right up until her sophomore year in high school. She had been able to handle most of the things life threw her way; levitation, astral echo, but then this new power developed. At first she had tried to look it up in her books and tried to teach herself all that was needed but then...then she was attacked again. The first manifestation had been on her way home from the store, this time it was on her way to school; people were everywhere and it couldn’t be avoided, the demon had struck first so to speak. But she couldn’t move, she could think, none of her powers worked! She got hit with the energy ball but lucky for her it was only a flesh wound. She managed to escape and it was after recounting this story to her aunt that it was decided; she would be going to magic school.

The nondescript black van pulled up at the appointed place, at the appointed time, as per the instructions sent to Sorrel in the anonymous black envelope. The sky was a dark grey of swirling clouds, impregnated with rain waiting to spill. One by one the lamps on the street lit due to the impending darkness; and then the door opened.
Sorrel was pulled inside, momentarily blinded by the contrast of the light outside and in the depths of the van. In that time deftly skilled fingers tied a mask to her face, obstructing her vision. The vehicle started to move forwards and Sorrel tipped sideways, a strong arm caught her and put rights to her balance. It seemed like hours; as the wheels found bumps a person in full possession of their senses wouldn’t have noticed. Smells were more acute; noises were more obvious, touch and feel very much important to this temporary moment of survival. A rushing sound could be heard in the distance and Sorrel wondered just what it might be: an aeroplane? Maybe a waterfall, a distant breeze through extending branches, or the downpour that those dark skies threatened. The car stopped and she heard the door slid open before being pushed into motion by that ever guiding hand. She climbed out. The blindfold was not removed.
She was roughly shoved to stand in some place specified by those unknown guides. The ground on which she stood felt uneven and soft, the smells were mingled; earth and salt. She heard the rushing sound again but still couldn’t identify its source.
“Sorrel Allium, do you hereby accept the invitation to join the Society of Wise Ones and do you also accept all rules and regulations associated with it?” Came a soft, mellow, voice from somewhere around her.
“I do” Sorrel replied, calmly, although her thoughts did not reflect that emotion.
“And do you, Sorrel Allium, accept the responsibilities of your new position; promise to stand with the Society and not against it, promise to take orders you are given with an open heart knowing that they are for the good of all people and gain of all wisdom?”
“I do” Sorrel again intoned.
“You do so swear to uphold the groups honour through your own actions and will thusly participate in the classic right of initiation without foreknowledge of said initiation practices?”
“I do so swear”
“Then by the bond of our blood, the sword of truth, and the scales of equality; may all wisdom be served by the justice of our actions”
“By the bond of our blood” Came several voices united.
“By the blond of our blood” Sorrel repeated.
A swift, sharp, pain came then; a cut to her palm with the edge of a knife. And those same mysterious guiding hands wrapped a cloth around her hand after the leader of this ceremony had clasped it. She thought, though, that she felt another clasp her hand before the bandage was wrapped on securely. Maybe it was just another part of the initiation.
Sorrel felt her hands being pulled and then she was helped to step into something. The vessel bobbed up and down buoyantly and she realised that she was stepping onto a boat. The rushing sound was closer now; the ocean? It couldn’t be they hadn’t been driving that long. The lap of water against the side of the boat was gentle and constant; the oars could be heard making swift sleek strokes through the water’s surface.
Presently they stopped and Sorrel was helped to stand. She was instructed to step out of the boat and then told not to move an inch from where she stood. She felt someone place something heavy and metal in one hand and another place something less heavy than the first object but covered in leather in the other. Her blindfold remained.
“We’ll be back within the half hour” The voice conducting the ceremony concluded.
Sorrel bobbed her head slightly but there was no other remark, only the answer of the lapping waves and rowing oars.
