DESCRIPTION:
Physical Description: Meka stands at 5’7, quite short for his age and in comparison to his brothers who both top the 6’ mark. It’s something that they mock him about on an all too regular basis, but typically Meka takes it in his stride and usually with a smile. He has a mop of mousy brown hair that is strewn with natural golden highlights and seems to grow at every which way. He prefers to keep his hair a little longer than average, showing how it has an innate tendency to curl out at the ends. He always keeps it longer on top so that it falls lazily across his forehead, drawing the onlooker onto his eyes which, like his brother’s, are a shade of pale blue-green. Large and slightly almond-shaped, they’re lined with heavy black lashes and along with his soft features lend a certain youthful appearance.
His nose is short, stubby, slightly upturned, and a little crooked, something that he has tried—unsuccessfully—to fix using magic. He has a vaguely heart-shaped face with a strong jaw line and full lips which are turned up at the corners making him appear as though a smile is never too far away, which would be the truth. When he smiles, which seems to be all the time, it’s a lopsided, cheeky smile and his face lights up with soft lines around his eyes and a distinctly mischievous twinkle. While Meka knows that he’s not completely unfortunate-looking, he doesn't get the same fandom of girls his brothers do, but he does on average have one or two.
Style: Meka doesn’t really have a style, instead wearing whatever he feels comfortable in. This does, admittedly, usually consist of well-fitted but loose jeans and a t-shirt, and often with a button down shirt for the casual layered look. He loves his Converse and has over a dozen pairs and so it’s rare that he’s seen without them. In fact, it’s only when his mother forces him to wear something a little more sophisticated that he’ll dust off the one pair of shoes that he owns. Meka has a leather jacket that his father gave to him just before he started Magic School, having kept it from his youth. A deep purple-red in colour, it has quickly become one of his favourite items of clothing and so wears it a lot of the time, not caring about the slightly out-dated look feeling that if people have time to talk about his choice of clothing, they have too much time on their hands.
Looks Like: William Moseley
Personality: Cool, calm and collected, Meka is generally chilled and laid back. He’s not a big talker, preferring to lurk in the background and allow others to take the limelight, but that doesn’t mean that he wont speak up if needs be. He’s quite headstrong and is fully aware of what he likes and dislikes even at his relatively young age. He just doesn’t feel the need to shout about it all the time. He’s not one for conflict on the whole, preferring to talk things through instead of resorting to physical action but isn’t naïve enough to believe that he wont ever have to fight and is fairly confident that he could hold his own should the need arise.
He’s neither academic nor a slacker, and manages to scrape through most subjects at school without putting in too much effort. Meka loves that he’s a witch and has regarded it as the greatest adventure of his life. That said, he doesn’t like to let the fact rule his life. He would like to learn how to master his powers fully –even if he’d rather not use them all that much –as he feels that he should be prepared for any eventuality should it arise.
He isn’t popular but people tend to know who he is and he doesn’t belong to any clique in particular, priding himself on being able to flit from one group to another and feel accepted by all. This could partly be because he isn’t as perceptive as others and probably wouldn’t pick up on the fact that he was annoying someone until they made it screamingly obvious. The same could be said for romantic relationships. He’s had a few, nothing of any real note, but it wasn’t until they told him straight that he finally caught up. Oblivious to flirting and hopeless at it himself, you’d have to whack Meka over the head with a neon sign that read ‘kiss me, you idiot’ before he realised you liked him.
He is a loyal friend and one that is willing to fight to the hilt to defend the few friendships he sees as vitally important. He is a very accepting young man and so tends to befriend those that find no clique of their own. He firmly believes that school shouldn’t be all work and so tries to make his friends smile at every given opportunity and will go to the ends of the earth to make sure they’re happy. He’s not really an emotional kind of guy—if he were, he’d not be so oblivious to romantic attention—but knows when one of his closest friends is upset or angry. Everyone else, not so much, and again they’d probably have to bash him on the head before he realised something was wrong. That said, when it comes to relationships he's all about emotional attachment. He's not one for flings or one night stands.
The teachers see Meka as an average student, not exceptional in the slightest. It’s not that he doesn’t have the intelligence to succeed; he simply doesn’t try as much as others want him to, much to his parents’ concern. He has no idea what he wants to do when he graduates from school, never really planning more than a day or two ahead as he prefers to take life in his stride. He’s still got a rosy outlook on life, never letting things faze him, and believes that his determination to be happy will see him through. On the whole, he enjoys attending Magic School, seeing every day like a mini adventure.

History: Meka was born to Layla and James Redwood in the summer of 1975. It was a complicated birth and Layla was in labour for almost a whole day before Meka put in an appearance. It has been an ongoing joke in the family that it was foreshadowing of the laid back, don’t rush for anyone attitude he would develop in his early years.
The Redwood’s live in a modest house in the Richmond District area of San Francisco, and appear to be a typical family. And to a certain extent, that’s right on the money. Both of Meka’s parents work, his father a doctor at the local ER, and his mother a complimentary medicine practitioner. This is an ideal vocation for her as she is able to incorporate her magic into her work. Also like a typical family, the siblings fought like cat and dog more often than not, but it was usually only in jest. The brothers have a strong relationship, each one willing to defend the other to the hilt.
Both Sabien and Talian began to develop their powers at very early ages, with Sabien showing the first signs just before his second birthday. Talian followed in his second year but Meka was a late bloomer. He didn’t have his first magical experience until he was almost five. There was a time when his parents thought that the family magic had skipped him altogether but a prophetic dream a week or so before his fifth birthday in which Meka saw what his parents had brought him for his special day put paid to that.
When Sabien started attending Magic School, both Talian and Meka felt the pangs of jealousy. Even though their mother was a willing teacher, the abilities of the members of the family differed and so other than the basic principals of control, she couldn’t help her sons to master their gifts. From his first day at Magic School, Sabien began to display a control over his powers that Meka longed for. Thankfully, it wouldn’t be too long before he was accepted at the school himself. However, his parents had decided that whereas Magic School would be an essential part of their education, they should experience the other side, too. Therefore, all three boys were enrolled in normal, mortal schools until the time came for them to start high school.
And it was a time that Meka enjoyed immensely. Sure, it was difficult to make friends and not let them know the family secret, and he came close to letting it slip a couple of times in his younger years. It was only stories from his mother, where witches were sold out to demons by one posing as students that shocked Meka into keeping his mouth shut. He’s quite sure that it was just a scary story his mother made up but it didn’t matter. It did the job. When the time came for Meka to move onto Magic School, he was both excited for the adventure that laid ahead and sad to be leaving his mortal friends behind. He still sees them as often as he can, but in order to stop them asking questions, he was forced to tell them that he had been enrolled in a private boarding school, the same his father attended as a boy. His cover seems to have worked nicely so far.
Meka remembers his first day at Magic School very well. Nervous beyond belief, he arrived with Tal in the great hall and felt a little overwhelmed. Before then, he’d never really known anyone else from the magical community, aside from his family, and he was equally apprehensive and excited about meeting others his age who were struggling to cope with their gifts. That first week in Magic School, two things happened. Firstly, he met his classmates, with whom he mostly got along with, and secondly Talian began his daily ritual of playfully beating up on his younger brother. Jumping him in the hallways, stealing his bag, hiding his books—Tal’s done it all, and Meka takes it in his stride, just like everything else.
Three years on, Meka is a junior and still enjoys school. A strictly average student, though more so because of his won’t-be-rushed attitude than lack of smarts, he stumbles through most of his classes, chatting with his friends when he should be paying attention. He’s made a few good friends, the kind that he’d stand up and fight for, and has a slight crush on the youngest of the Charmed Ones. He doesn’t know what it is about Paige Halliwell that enthrals him, but he’s hardly about to complain when she talks to him. When he’s not at school, Meka isn’t the sort to spend time studying. He’s a firm believer that he will learn everything he’s supposed to and everything else will just get pushed out of his head. Instead, he spends his time listening to and playing music. He’s an avid pianist and guitarist, preferring to play the chilled out, uplifting music that reflects his personality. He also enjoys skateboarding, although he’s not particularly good at staying in the board, and drawing. Meka is most happy when he’s just hanging out with friends.
